Corn Husks are essential tamale-making wrappers, and have a long history of being useful and delicious in Mexican history. First made widespread by the conquistadors and used to transport food compactly, tamales using corn husks as wrappers is a time-honored classic. Dried corn husks, such as the ones we are selling, can be steamed or boiled with meats, cheese, vegetables, or peppers for an original taste. Spices are commonly added to the inside to bring it in line with other traditionally spicy Mexican dishes. Tamales are typically made by throwing masa mix (a special type of dough) in with the corn husks and steaming them until they are firm. They can be filled with meats such as pork and chicken that are appropriate for both breakfast and dinner. Dinner tamales are often filled with salsas and moles for a spicier flavor. This batch of corn husks comes with about 30 or 40 individual husks. Corn husks do not have to be used just for food purposes. Traditional corn husk dolls have been made for years by Native Americans. Corn husks are used for the body and shape of the doll, with hair made from leaves. Rolled pieces of husks make up the doll's legs and arms. Oftentimes, the dolls would be made with gender-based equipment, such as weapons for boy dolls and gardening tools for girl dolls. Whether you are interested in trying your hand at making a spicy Mexican tamale or are interested in helping your kids make dolls, a batch of corn husks can be a lot of fun (and extremely taste). Please note that these contain sulfide as a preservative.
