Goya Alcaparrado Manzanilla Olives are grown on trees mostly in the Mediterranean region, Spain and California. They are harvested while in the purple to green stage, cleaned and cured in brine made of salt and water and the brine solution removes the bitterness of the olive. The olives are removed from the brine and pitted and some are stuffed with pimento and sometimes garlic. The olives, considered a fruit, are light green in color, partly due to the brine solution and partly due to the aging process. The olive has a fleshy and tender outside while covering a hard shelled seed. Olive trees are hardy and robust and can spawn olives for hundreds of years. The Goya Alcaparrado Manzanilla Olives 3.25 oz includes pimento and capers and will add zest to any recipe. The olives contain about 30 calories per serving and one serving contains 5 olives. Of the calorie count 87% is from fats and 13% from carbs.
