The History of the San Juan Diego Candle. San Juan Diego, a widowed man, faithfully walked to mass every Saturday and Sunday. One cold morning, he heard an unfamiliar voice beckon him to the top of Tepeyac. Here he encountered a strange vision. A young girl appeared to him, she spoke to him in native tongue and said: I will exhibit my love, compassion, help and protection to the people. I am your merciful mother of all who live united in this land, of those who love me, cry to me, seek me, have confidence in me. Here I will hear their weeping, their sorrow and will remedy all their sufferings and misfortunes. She continued to explain her intentions of wanting a shrine built there on the hillside of Tepeyac, where she could exhibit the above. San Juan took this news to the Bishop who was doubtful. He asked for proof. San Juan Diego returned to the spot where he saw the apparition. She appeared again. I need proof, he explained and The Virgin Mary instructed him to a spot where he could collect blooming flowers of all sorts; although it was winter. Sure enough San Juan found the flowers and returned to the bishop with them. Upon showing them to the bishop, the flowers transformed and an image of Our Lady of Guadeloupe appeared. The shrine was built and prayer and worship to the Virgin Mary commenced. San Juan Diego lived near to this shrine and cared for the chapel and the people who came there. This special San Juan Diego candle is a representation to San Juan Diego and his special contributions. The San Juan Diego candle depicts the image of this story. The San Juan Diego candle is commonly used to give thanks to San Juan Diego for his persistence in having the shrine constructed for all of those who could benefit by it.
